undesirable creatures

Dear Dr. Ron Shimek,
I am about to set up my first dsb. Thank you for your warning concerning sand sifting creatures. It is my understanding that some shrimp are bad for a dsb while other shrimp are ok. I looked at your website and links, please forgive me if I missed it, is there a list of specific animals that are detrimental to a dsb?

Hi Joe,

No, I haven't posted a list of undesireable creatures.

Generally, any sand sifting animals are not good, nor are hermit crabs, regular crabs or most shrimp (all of these crustaceans are indiscriminate predators on small animals). Cleaner shrimp are +/- okay. Whelks, miter snails, olive snails, etc., are also detrimental.
