My tank was taken over by bubble algae in about 18 months time. I lived in the country on a salt filtered well and had impecable water.....but when I moved to the city the trouble began. Needless to say, the algae covered and hurt everything. I tried emeralds and Naso's. The Emerald crabs just couldnt keep up and the Naso would nibble on it here and there. I finally had to set up a live rock tank out of a plastic tub (via Lowes) in my garage and start cleaning it. I actually had to pressure wash some of the rock and some the rubble I had to let set out to die off. It was so bad I was breaking off huge slabs of two or three different varieties of the stuff. Well I am starting over and I am going bare bottom for now and will add crushed to the front of the tank once it stabilizes. I should have taken photos before and after but I would be embarased. I almost said the heck with it if it wasnt for my maroon clown that I have had since '94. Anyway, here are photos and description of my setup. I am considering a UV setup just for extra measure. I would appreciate any input offered. Thanks.
