renacal filstar canister filter

I have this filter on my 25 gal reef tank. Was told to rinse one of two foam pads every month and the other two weeks later. I never find these very dirty. so how often would you open this filter up and rinse one of the pads. It's been over a month now and water is still testing fine. just have arbon thats a six month duration carbon in filter no bio bals .

If you can i would recommend you change this filter to a wet/dry or sump with refugium but if you decide to keep it you'll have to rinse it at least once a week or else it produces nitrates.

i agree with fish. either change it to a sump/fuge and use the canister as a big power head and for carbon and phosban. or clean the canister VERY GOOD at least once a week.
