View Full Version : I found our lost puppy!!

Our new puppy Jack got out on Christmas day by prying the wood gate apart at the bottom. I drove all the streets until dark and then walked for a couple more hours. I put eye-catching fliers on every light pole within two miles, and at nearby convenience stores. I put an ad in the paper and on the radio.

No calls.

Then today I was out back by the wood fence picking up some leaves, and I caught some movement through one of the slats. I looked up just in time to see a black dog with what I thought was a blue collar just going into the neighbors back door. I thought "Naw, there's no way!" So I printed out another flier and went over there. I was almost in a fighting mood when I knocked on the door. When they opened the door I showed them the flier and right away they said "OH! This is YOUR dog!"

I told them that I had fliers hanging all over the place with giant red letters that say "LOST DOG" and pointed to TWO of them on the light pole right in their front yard! They said they don't notice much when they're driving. :mad2:

ANYWAY...

It's GREAT to have Blackjack back home!!

And, needless to say, that back gate is now very solid and un-pry-able. ;)

Satori - maybe get with Emely and see about dig trainin as well. I know of a few ways to stop a dog digging but one of them involves a shot from Hubris :D

good luck hopefully he's not an escape artist

Digging isn't a problem, the yard is all rocks. The wood gate was pretty richety with only a latch up top and he was able to pull it apart at the bottom. I beefed it up and put a second latch at the bottom. :)

He has his brand new tags with his name, address and phone number, so if he gets out again nobody can say they didn't know better.

I've had those before! It's worse when there's more than one. They learn from each other. :D

We were! We only had him a week when he got out, but that was more than enough time to get very attached. To make matters worse, we're not far from a rather busy 4-lane.

I totally understand...I had a cat that used to love to "escape". He would disappear for weeks on end everytime he got out. We used to hunt for him day and night...then find him...then repeat...over and over again. I am so happy you got your puppy back :)

I'm just surprised they didn't make any effort to find the owner. They told me they figured he belonged to someone nearby.

If I didn't hate to know my neighbors so much, I would have gone door-to-door the first day.

Did they at least make some progress with toilet training him while they had him? :p
