View Full Version : Who Still Drinks Bottled Water?

How bad it is for the environment isn't news, but you don't see it much in the media. I liked seeing it on the 2007 Over and Out list. But since she mentioned public fountains (as in the drinking type) in the same sentence as public restrooms, there's no chance Griss will ever use one.

I'd be shocked if folks in the reef/SW tank hobby bought bottled water. I left the hobby, but my RO now makes my drinking water supply.

RACHEL PERRY WELTY, artist:

I'm so over bottled water, not that I was ever a big user. . . . It's an embarrassment on many levels. There's the waste of resources - not only the bottles themselves, but the fossil fuels used to get the water from one location to another. And then there's the pervasive brain-washing we've received to distrust our water supply, when in reality we have some of the best quality water in the world. Also, why do people need to walk around with this pacifier? I would like to see a national competition for the design of a sanitary, sturdy, and beautiful public water fountain so that there would be two water fountains for every public restroom in every community.

:D I've only drank bottled water a handful of times (like at community service type things where they're supplying the water and such). I would never buy it myself to drink, a good portion of it is just tap or RO water anyway!

On the other hand some friends of ours, and also the ranch owners here, when they come to stay on the ranch they buy all their own water because our tap here on the ranch isn't filtered (collected from a groundwater seep, then goes into a couple underground tanks to settle the sediment out) so it has all the little microscopic critters still swimming around in it. So it has the habit of making people sick who aren't used to it ;).

the only time i drink bottled water is when i'm in the city. city water is nasty. at home, we have a sand point. our water comes from an underground spring. if i could bottle and sell it, i'd be rich!

I don't drink water.

Kids will take bottled water to karate and running.

Hubby hooked up my RO unit to the kitchen sink for drinking water.

I'll buy a bottle of drinking water just to get a fresh container for refilling from my RODI.

:D Its a type of well.

not really a well, dino. carrie, a sand point is a pipe that is put into the ground (here, about 30') until it hits an underground pool that is spring-fed. attached to the end of the pipe that goes into the water is a 3' cylinder, pointed, that looks much like a very long, skinny bullet. the other end of the pipe (above ground) is attached to a water pump that is housed in a little wooden building that looks kinda like an outhouse. when i turn a faucet on or start the washing machine or the shower, the pump kicks on and delivers water through our water lines.

there ya go. everything you ever wanted to know about sand points but never really cared. :D

I drink it on a regular basis, and I really don't see what the big deal is. I'm traveling nearly fulltime for work right now, and when you're yapping in conference rooms all day then sleeping in (typically very dry-aired) hotel rooms at night, it's easy to get dehydrated. Bottled water is convenient, portable, and safe.

Now, when I'm at home, I don't touch the stuff.

Mine comes from a well I drilled. Same water that goes into my tank also.
