I went to get a space heater today, and came home with one of these:

When the Mrs made banana bread last weekend, she mentioned that it would be easier with a big mixer. I heard.
Ask and you shall recieve!

The space heater was for the garage. :p

And I did get the space heater. And security lights for above the garage. And solar walkway lights. And a micro-SD card for my cell phone. AND, I was back home in a half-hour. Most women take an hour of shopping per item!

I love the one that my hubby bought me! I made him a birthday cake from scratch the other night! It's like having the extra hands you always need!

I'm amazed at all the available accessories for it. I just might have to get her the ice cream maker and the ravioli maker. ;)

I've had a kitchenaid for many years. Pass on the pasta accessories; a hand-crank machine to make the sheets and ravioli press is less stressful to use.

If you have use for a meat grinder and/or sausage maker; I found those attachments useful.

Maybe the pasta attachment would be useful for other kinds of pasta. And I did buy a motor for my hand-crank machine. But stuffing ravioli would require constant stops/starts and I don't think a kitchenaid provides enough control to do it well.

I just noticed-- is that a hand-crank on the end of that attachment? If so, then you have the control you need, but don't see what purpose the mixer serves other than to hold it.

I don't know. It kind of looks like it, but the video demo on the site isn't very helpful.

I might find a use for the grinder and sausage stuffer, but I haven't hunted deer since I moved away from South Dakota.

Oh, can I come over and test the ravioli maker??? That is a pretty nice mixer/whatever else it can make. Looks like it would be good for a nice batch of beer bread (about the only thing I know how to make)...

Beer bread - that sounds good already!

David, even if I was to tap into the credit cards I wouldn't be coming home with one of those. :p

pass on the meat grinder/sausage stuffer unless the largest amount of meat you will ever grind/process/stuff will NEVER exceed 5 pounds, and typical usage won't exceed 2-3 lbs

I smoked the motors on 2 of the 600 watt 6 quart models
warranty did replace both, but the CS rep told me when they issued the UPS call tag & the RMA number the second time, if you want to grind meat, buy a meat grinder
JMO, IME, EIEIO

I did buy a meat grinder, 1.5 hp, #22 head, rated 12 -15 lbs/minute
next weekend, I will start my annual sausage making adventure
there is about 200lbs each of venison & elk in my freezer and almost that much in the freezer of my buddy that I make sausage with
prime cuts go into steaks, 10-15% of total weight
the rest goes thru the grinder
what gets packaged as burger has beef fat added 12%
everything else that is destined for sausage has lean pork 10% and pork fat 15%
bratwurst
italian
breakfast
mmmmm

I killed both mixers mentioned above trying to do a little 20lb batch of sausage

Satori

Mmmm - good stuff. When I called my family back home on Christmas they were busy processing their deer - 14 total. They promised to send me several large packages of various steaks, sausage, jerky, and pepper sticks.

smoked sausage, pepper sticks etc will be my next step in sausage making

I've got my fresh sausages refined from a science to an art, it's time to expand my horizions

enjoy your "care package" from home!

Meh, I'd pass on ALL the accessories. I have one of the big-HP kitchenaid mixers, and have tried almost all the accessories over the last few years. 100% of them ended up on eBay or craigslist. None of them did as well as something purpose-built for the job.

pnosko covered the pasta-related stuff. The meat grinder is OK, but I'll agree with Bart - it has a tiny capacity. I suppose it would be OK if you were grinding a bit of beef for a hamburger or two, but don't try to make 20 lbs of sausage with it. Similar story with the ice cream maker.

You also have to consider the fact that the kitchenaid items are as much or more than "regular" tools for many of these jobs, too.

Junk. The rollers and noodle cutters are not bad tho. I have the wheat grinder and I like that one too.

geez, thanks Debi. :p

By the sounds of it, I'll save my money on attachments. At least she'll be able to use it to make her banana bread every year. I'm sure she'll find plenty of other uses for it.

I got a box today! Sure, it's not "several" boxes, but that's fine. There were sausages, pepper sticks, "Texas Hot Venison" (whatever that is), strip jerky, tube jerky, salami, venison pepperoni, and home-made Kalua. I made the recommended recipe for the Kalua drink - Colorado Bulldog - that my Mom wrote in the card. From the smell, taste, and effect, I would have to say that Kaluha might be a wrong name. I think "Black Moonshine" might be more accurate! I was stationed in Georgia so I do know what Moonshine is.

Thanks Mom!

I have a kitchenmaid mixer and love it. The dial thingy on the pasta roller is for adjusting the thickness of the dough. That's a good thing. I also have the meat grinder and the vegey slicer attachments.
