NOPE, there ARE NOT healthy fish there. I stopped buying fish there 10 years ago, yes 10 years ago because of there crappy looking fish. Why would any store leave dead fish in the tanks all day? Over the course of the last few months I have noticed a trend at Coral reef. Cleaner tanks, less dead fish, and more corals. I took a chance and bought 2 false percs at a great price and added them carefully to an established tank. Within 4 days they exhibited symptoms of internal parasites which is the reason myself and my friends stopped buying fish there 10 years ago.
I did not qt the fish as they were the only 2 fish going into the tank. A hospital tank would not have worked even if I had one as they died too quickly over one day while I was on a 24 hour shift.
Debbie is the only employee I ever seem to deal with there and she is great but I am never going back there. I dont want to deal with store credit or refunds for dead fish bodies. I dont want an apology from them either as it doesnt matter since I will never go back in there. I just want you guys to know so that you dont drop your guard like I did.
This post isn't meant as a rant, I have bought drygoods there over the years including my 220 gallon Perfecto and stand because they are cheaper then most in the city. But watch it there and dont kill all your livestock by infecting them with Coral Reef's unhealthy fish.
I went to Ocean Design today and told Jaime what happened and she rolled her eyes and sold me a pair of Black Ocellaris's at a huge discount. The fish are absolutly gorgeous and healthy. The reason I know that they are healthy is that all their fish are qt'd for 2 weeks or more. I have bought well over 50 saltwater and freshwater fish at Ocean Design since they opened and have never lost one mysteriously. Not one ever.
Puffy, dont be mad at me, I know you love Coral Reef ;)
