I need lights!

This is my first time posting here, I didn't even know there was a board for locals! Too cool! Anyone have any lights for sale? I am looking for something for my 4 foot long tank. I have FOWLR but would like to start keeping a few corals as well. Thanks, Angela

I have a complete hood im looking to get rid of in a month or so .2 150 watt metal halides 2 96 watt power compacts and 3 moonlights by coralife.Bulbs would be fine for a while for a fish only with live rock but will need replacement before doing corals.Let me know if you have any further interest.send a pm.

okay... anyone know what I should go buy? I have been told that MH are the best but I couldn't spend $600-$1000 for lights! I def. want something I can use with corals! how about T5's?

Not sure what you budget is, but you can get a New 48" 2x250 MH and 2x96 PC True Atinics + 8 Moonlights from Aquatraders (http://www.aquatraders.com). I have used one for over a year not on my 90 Gal Mostly SPS reef and it has worked outstanding. Only 379.00 delivered. If that is too much check eBay, there are always great deals on ballasts and fixtures. If you are going to do any SPS you need a good amount of T5 or a MH system. MH is always the best way to go for SPS corals but you can get away with T5's if you have enough of them.

do you have a chiller? I hear that with MH I will need a chiller too?

ha...ha....ha....! just make sure chiller or no you can gurantee your temp to stay between 76'-83' F. im not running one and im able to keep mine pretty stable with my central heat and air. though will be buying a chiller in the near future. o yea i also have an open system so that also makes a big diffrence for me.:rollface:

Thanks for all the help! I just ordered a VHO T5 set up, shoul have it next week!... now if I can only get the husband to build me a new hood ;)

No, you don't need a chiller. I have 2 x 175W and a 250W over my 55 gallon tank, and I'm able to control the temperature with fans in the canopy.

Hi Angela, welcome to the club! It's great to see another girl on here! Yay! Look in the classifieds section on here under used drygoods. They've always got mh's at very fair cots. much less than 600.00. Good luck!!!
