There is a thread in the coral forums/zoanthus where a number of folks are repoting success with vitamin C dosing for lethargic and fading zoanthus. Opinions? Caveats?

I take 500 mg of C every day. I used to take 1000 mg but my doctor said its a waste of money because the human body can only absorb so much. The rest just goes........... well you know. :D

Seriously, haven't read much on it, but I suspect there is not much to it. Sometimes people see things in their tank because they want to believe.

Many vitamin /hufa supplements contain not only C but A, B1,B2, B6,B12 Thiamine and Niacin.

Dose it help ? Don't know. Does it hurt ? I doubt it. :)

I wonder where the vitamin C comes from that is dosed on the reefs?

Folks have suggested (and been) dosing vitamin C for more than 15 years. IMO, it has never been demonstrated to be useful. Maybe it is useful to something somewhere, and perhaps those zoos are a case in point, but I'd be very skeptical. :D

At least they chose a water soluble vit. But im surprised they didn't choose D for stronger coral bones :)

Thankyou for the replies Billybeau and Randy. I am skeptical but at least I gather it does no harm.

It will drop ORP through the floor. That likely is not a problem, but expect to see it happen if you measure ORP.

thanks again, I'll pass on it for now.

You're welcome.

If you try it, let us know what happens. :)

This is purely anecdotal, but every time I dose Vitamins and such (for various reasons) I tend to get a cyano outbreak soon afterwards. As such, I'm skeptical of adding anything that isn't directly eaten by the fish or a chemical additive (like limewater, or calcium).

Why is this?

Zooplankton for one, but undoubtably there are many more sources as well.
