Hey all,
I have a single large cleaner shrimp that has been in my system for about a year. About a month ago it molted and immediately afterward had a clutch of eggs in its swimmerettes. A few days later the eggs disappeared (yay coral food) and I didn't think much of it.
It molted again yesterday and again it has a ton of eggs clutched under its tail.
Theres nothing else in the tank that can fertilize them so I assume this latest batch will become montipora food, but does this indicate anything I should know about?
-Does this mean the shrimp is extremely happy?
-Is it a genetic survival instinct (implying the shrimp is stressed or dying)?
-Does it imply anything about water quality?
-Is the shrimp nearing end of life?
-Is the shrimp finally 'mature' and this will become a normal occurrence with each molt?
BTW, water quality is fine, 0, 0, 0, 35ppt, 420, 11dkh, 80 degrees.
