indeed that's really cool. I remember reading about this but its neat to actually see it.

I know there has to be several similar projects going on around the world; it would be great to see a running list of known ones. Looks like this particular area of research would be a great place to donate some money.

Or just weld together a metal-grid shape that resembles the aquascaping of your dreams, and go find a new best friend with a beachside condo :) Drop it in the ocean, run a line and plug it in!!!

i bet thats what the cable that hurley found in season 1 of lost was for.

The main reason is that it would kill your corals. It produces chlorine gas. That's not a problem when you have infinite dilution in the wild. In a closed tank it is.
