RBTA in refugium

Will my RBTA be alright in my refugium that is lit by a 65K Lights of America Compact Flourscent 24/7?

um .... i would not light the poor thing 24/7, so i would say no to that fact.... the lighting would be fine if you also fed the bta

I wouldn't Not enough lighting. They need t5's or MH, And pc's if you can get them really close to the top of the tank.

i think if the light in the fuge came on when the lights in the display went off then it could be ok, but ive never tried this so wouldnt know

why are you running your fuge light 24/7? Macroalgaes and anything photosynthetic needs light cycles with light and dark.

While not a rose BTA, I do have brown BTA's in two of my refugia. Some are lit 24/7 with mh, and some are even lit only with halogen spot lamps, and they all do fine.

I've considered such issues in the past, and had lit 24/7 for many years. When I switched some of my refugia to light/dark cycles for the reason given in this paper, I noted no benefit:

that article just states that a light/dark cycle is better. the dark part is needed for respiration the counter part to photosynthesis. during the day plants take in carbon dioxide and produce glucose and give off oxygen. at night they they go through respiration which breaks the glucose in the presence of oxygen. so whether you notice anything or not i think its a scientific fact that dark cycles are needed for photosynthetic plants and macroalgaes in this case. im no scientists but i have done multiple science experiments in the past for school where i tested different aspects of growing algae. feel free to correct me though i wont be offended

When I wrote the article I did not say that light/dark was better. I said it might be, if only from an electrical usage standpoint. As I have experimented myself, I have found that there is no apparent difference in my tank system. It may still be better and I just did not notice a difference, or it might be better in other situations, or it might be better in my tank just from an electrical cost perspective.

Respiration occurs 24 hours a day. Photosynthesis only occurs during the light cycle.
