Thompson Tang?

I recently got a pair of Thompson tangs juv.'s from a LFS. They are pretty cool, but I'm having trouble finding much info on them. Any one have any experience with these particular kind of tangs?

Other wise I'm just treating them like every other tang I've owned and feeding typical tang food...

What is a Thompson Tang? I've never heard of it. I checked Live Aquaria, and the Marine Center and a search of the websites shows nothing. Can you post a pic?

Hmm It didn't come up when I searched. That's the first time I've ever seen this fish. Nice find Inigma! From the link:

This infrequently available and distinctive tang is also known as the scissortail tang. Its normal coloration is an attractive blue-gray, which can change quickly to a much darker or lighter shade, depending on its mood. This is one of the less demanding and least aggressive members of the Acanthurus clan who's need are easily met in a well maintained aquarium. Provide this active fish with plenty of swimming room, as well as plenty of hiding places. This tang is rarely available, so unless you're very patient you may want to check out other tangs. Be sure to order this one fast because they're not often available and never plentiful.

Herbivore, provide with a varied diet that includes frozen and flake foods for herbivores as well as dried algae sheets. Also eat some zooplankton.

scrmbld33- IBEW- thats cool, I applied to the Martinez, Ca Local last year for the apprenticeship program, but didn't make it :( Oh well, I'm UA 342 Pipefitter Apprentice now.


Yeah, I saw the tangs at a LFS and thought they were kinda cool. I wanted to do a couple of younger tangs in a 72 BF. I didn't want the typical specimen and wanted to do something like a Tomini and a Chevron, but wanted to wait till I found a Juv of both at the same time so they could be introduced at the same time, but that didn't work out.

Any ways, I saw the Thompsons's ( Two small one's in the same tank) and noticed they were getting along and hanging out together so I went home and looked them up at the Marine Center, but thats about the only place I could really get any information on them from.

They said they were pretty rare and not too hard to take care of. I didn't really mean to buy them too much, but they were still there when I went back so eh, I bought them together. I hope they continue to get along. So far so good.

Only bad thing is after buying them I realized that planktivore doesn't mean they eat plants :( they aren't really herbivores... Too late now though.
