i've had BB tanks for years and I do love all the benefits you get from them. Though I have 1 concern, I'm so sick of the look. I've actually never had a DSB. I know there are a lot of differing opinions here but I would love to hear from some DSB owners. Am I really gonna have a hellish time with nitrates? Plus if I were to do it how many pounds would I need for a 90. Thanks

Have any pics of your BB tank?

I'd like to see how it's currently setup.

no nothing current. But it's just 75lbs of rock in a 50gal. All debris collect to the very left corner. And also I don't have the rocks propped up on pvc or anything. Also I see from your web page you have your vortechs from the back. I have 1 koralia 850gph 1 1250gph and a seio 620. The 1250 isn't in the current 50. There is also a ocean runner 650gph closed loop and the 600gph from the return.

Here's a link to the sand bed calculator (http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/SandBed.php). Five inches is recommended if you're going to rely on it to reduce nitrates. That's what I had the first time I set up my 90g. Now I'm going BB.

I like tanks that are setup with about an inch or so of sand, this keeps coralline from growing on the bottom, is attractive and doesn't trap too much. A RDSB can be used for nitrates and can be kept out of the tank reducing a chance that a creature will disturb the sand bed and ruin your anaerobic bacteria and release nasty stuff.
