Just wanted an opion from some pro refers about 100% water change. I'm going to do 4 x 25% in a week. and i'm wondering if this will have a good long term effect on my cyano or bad effect overall.
I no i'm not putting to many excess nutrients into the tank but i still can't can't kick this problem.

i dont think doing a 100 % water change would be a good idea...why not add some urchins, a sea hare, or an emerald crab for the algae...you could also try red slime remover...

I have to agree. That much change in ph, kh, temp, salinity, it will all be different with each water change. The fish might be able to handle it but there are others that can't.

Many 'experts' say 100% water changes are good. Anthony Calfo talks about doing a complete change every few weeks in one of his smaller tanks. I've done 80 - 90% changes many times and i've never had any issues. The new water must be PERFECTLY matched to your old water. It's not that tough, just pay close attention and wait til all the parameters are in check.

I did a 75% change two weeks ago in my 35g and I will be doing another this weekend. The corals react very well to the new water.

I was just going with what I heard on another site. I think this site has a lot more info and a lot more accurate. If some of the 10+ year reefers say that it's okay, I will agree and try it. I know that when I get lazy and the water gets nasty, a 30-40% change will not clean up the water. If this is true that the big change will not hurt anything, I will start doing 75-80% changes just to put better supplements in the tank.

I personally think if you do good maintenance and do 30% weekly for a few weeks, you will be better off then doing a 100% water change. Siphon out the redslime and maybe add some macro algae. Red slime remover does not fix the problem. It's just a bandaid.

just a heads up, doing 4 25% water changes isnt a 100% waterchange. its more like a 68.5% water change. lolz kthnxbi.
