Canister Filters

So I have been battling bryopsis for about 10 months now. I have a 30 Gal with an Aqua C remora skimmer, 2 power heads, about 2 inches of sand, 44 lbs of live rock (no corals yet) 3 fish, 2 shrimp, snails and hermits. oh yeah and a useless emerald crab.

My water params seem fine all in the norm. I dont think I over feed. I have tried everything to get rid of this.

I was thinking maybe a canister filter in addition to the skimmer might help remove more stuff from the tank. Any thoughts. I do have plans to get corals if I can ever get this algae under control.

have you tried the high magnesium method?

I did. I am not sure I did it correct but

I used kent marine tech M and I added some everyday. I brought the mag up to about 1650.

I had an emerald crab that was very healthy up and die so I stopped adding more.

Is there a better method. I brought it up slow over lets say 2 weeks.
