If it's not on the inside, water will get through the threads.

It makes a big difference. The gasket ALWAYS goes on wet side.

The o-ring goes on inside part of the tank.

OK. Listen up....... It does not make a hill of beans if it is on the inside or outside...AS LONG AS IT IS ON THE FLANGE SIDE, no matter where the flange is. Once again from the top....The gasket ALWAYS goes next to the flange.

Do not use any silicone or tape or libricants as it can cause the gasket to scoot or squeeze out and leak. Tighten hand tight then maybe 1/4 turn more, no more than that. Never support any piping or pumps with a bulkhead, suspend or brace them with something so they do not stress the bulkhead and cause it to leak or crack.

Okay then...why would the flange NOT be on the inside of the tank.

You can turn it either direction, it does not matter. Space restrictions are one reason. Its not common but I have seen it.

Hmmm.. I guess it never occurred to me to use a bulkhead upside down.

I agree with AZDesertRat 100% I install bulkheads with the flange on the outside all the time.

he can't make it any clearer ...........it goes on the FLANGE SIDE

it does not matter if the flange is on the dry side or the wet side :)

I agree...inside or outside as long as it's on the flange side.
