Question regarding fan usage

I recently purchased a new 2X65W CF fixture for my 20G long tank, and it includes a built-in fan. My question, is there any reason I need to actually run the fan other than to control an increase in water temperature? I'm hoping not. I'd rather not use the electricity and listen to the sound of it if I don't have to.

It's supposed to cool down the lights and ballasts. This allows them to last longer before needing to be replaced
