You guys ever hear of them? Selling filtered natural sea water? Petco is selling the stuff. Website does not give a whole lot of info. I talked with them about bulk and the price goes down.

i have seen tests results and it has a ridiculously high alkalinity, they buffer the crap out of it, i wouldnt' use it in a reef tank

I have heard some negative things as well about the pre-packaged catalina water and the nutrisea packaged stuff. I do think I remember reading that the water Catalina Water Company delivers in CA does not have the same issues, but thats kind of a moot point here in VA :D

Out of curiosity, how does the price of this Catalina water at Petco compare to the cost of premixed salt water from one of the local LFS?

*For a little soapbox moment, IMO an RO/DI water purifier is probably the single best thing you can get for a reef tank.

Isn't there another type of boxed water that they sell at PetCo? I don't get my water anywhere but one of the LFS, but I know Eric (radar) get's his at PetCo...genuine concern for his tank if all the water tests this way... :(

I make my own with rodi.. but I have never seen anyone market natural sea water.

catalina water sells in most of california, and i guess they are expanding.


iirc, it's about 12 dollars for 5 gallons....

from what i remember reading the alk varies wildly by batch, and they obviously don't put much value in the "natural" part of natural seawater. there is certainly a benefit to be had from some water from the ocean, but that really isn't what this is, but rather was.
