I'm sitting here now waiting for the bus from Stuart Cove Dive Shop to take me to my first dive of the week! This is going to be my first dive since getting into the hobby. I have a feeling that I will appreciate what I see on this one a whole lot differently.
I'll try to post pics later in the week.

While you're down there, be sure to get your hair braided! That way, you won't look like some idiot tourist.

I think the street map and fanny pack are a dead give away. I've also taken to wearing a T- shirt of the place I'm at.
Never mind that the pool bar tender...for some reason has taken to calling me "a lighter shade of pale". :rolleye1:
Why is it ALWAYS the whitest tourist on the street that has the braids? I have NEVER seen a "native" in Mexico, or the Bahamas sporting around like they are a "10" reject. Will this be Farra Faucets lasting legacy?

I'll try to get some video of my shark feeding dive up soon.

Doh! :o

I did have one "clencher" while shooting some video, when one was just lazely swimming by then SUDDENLY turned right toward my face. :eek2: If I can ever get the video portion to upload I'll put it here.
As far as the new drawers goes...that's the beauty of wet suits, you just rinse it off in the drink like an old cloth diaper.
Tommorow will be much calmer, just some mean ol' coral and reef fish to contend with.

I think sharks are the best part of diving (Next to corals now). Sharks have gotten a real bad rap from the media and book writers. They are not ferocious rip you apart man eaters they are portrayed to be. The are very beautiful, graceful apex predators of the sea. Just to be down there with them is a privileged. The big difference in diving with them and all the attacks you hear about is we do not look like food when diving. We look like fugly fish that blows bubbles, swims awkwardly, and are are about the same size as most of them. Most attacks on people are actually mistaken identity and accidents. Swimmers, Snorkelers, Surfers, etc have a shadow that resembles a seal when viewed from the bottom so they think you are dinner. When I am wreck diving there are usually 25 or more sharks around at any given time, you just swim with them and respect them. Any divers who have ever been bitten have been from provoking them. It is generally OK to stroke their side when they swim by, but some people feel the need to grab their fins and other stupid antics that **** them off. These people fail to realize that sharks are totally cartilaginous (No Solid Bones) and can just about turn on a dime. Here are a couple of picts while I was diving off Morehead City, NC.. The fist one is me swimming up on a 7 foot Sand Tiger.

Great shot!
You couldn't have spoken truer words about sharks. When I dive with 'em I get the same feeling of smallness( is that a word?) as when in a lightening storm or watching the surf pound the shorline. It really is humbleing.

:D I did come from Jaws generation.. Made me very afraid of sharks... ( wierd phopia still with me) But have never wanted to kill them.
BTW, Kinda neat, Is there a word for it??? (our smallness)
I raised my kids to love and respect this world...
Wasn't Men in black so cool..?? (universe in a small sphere)
(my daugher and I,,, used to sit on front porch watching thunderstorms--- AWSOME power)
OK, I am off my podium :)

JK!

Ya know, I do feel that way sometimes!! :lol2:

Was at the Christmas parade here in Amelia yesterday...took 3 of the younger kids...stood around the corner from Anthony's place...had to keep standing up and readjusting because kneeling down was really killing my knees and ankles...and I already have arthritus in everything from my hips down on both sides...

Anyone know a good orthopedic surgeon? ;)

Gotta admit though, some of the folks on here are a tad older than the rest of us... *cough*Charlie*cough* ;) :D :p

Okay, here we go.
Sorry about the image quality. It doesn't transfer over to the web that great.

This first one is just a shallow reef dive.

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q160/virginiadiver/th_SharkDive2031.jpg (http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q160/virginiadiver/?action=view&current=SharkDive2031.flv)

This is the same dive but notice the blue tang if you can. It's not a powder blue or a regal tang. It is shaped just like a yellow but is a dark blue with a lighter and almost fluorescent blue rim on it's dorsal fin. Any Ideas?
I also saw a yellow tang with the same electric blue rimmed dorsal fin. Any info would be great.

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q160/virginiadiver/th_SharkDive2032.jpg (http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q160/virginiadiver/?action=view&current=SharkDive2032.flv)

Here are the shark dives.
Turn up the volume and you can here the fins hitting my camera (head and face to).

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q160/virginiadiver/th_SharkDive058.jpg (http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q160/virginiadiver/?action=view&current=SharkDive058.flv)

Notice on this second one how the wrangler seems to get tangled up with one. I don't know what was going on here.
At the end you can here my thoughts (OH SH_T!) as one takes a sudden turn for my head!

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q160/virginiadiver/th_SharkDive059.jpg (http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q160/virginiadiver/?action=view&current=SharkDive059.flv)

I must say though, the reef dives where a little disappointing. Mostly sea fans and sponge. I saw a lot of mats of zoanthids but they where closed up(for some reason most polyps open only at night in the ocean unlike our tanks).

Thanks for sharing the videos! I just watched them with my 4 year old daughter, and she said "I want to watch more!"

They are more than likely Atlantic Blue Tangs. They are yellow when they are juveniles and turn blue when they are adults.

Here is a good link for some educational material about them.

I think so too, I have wondered why you don't see em more in the hobby. I wonder if they don't do well, or are aggressive or what ever? I have seen them for sale online a couple of times but never in a store.
