is there calcium in the shell of a flame scallop, a dead one, thank you

there is calcium in all shells - they are made of calcium carbonate for the most part.

would i dead scallop give me a reading of 550 calcium after multiple water changes with instant ocean which is low in calcium

Nope.. your PH would have to be like a calcium reactor to even get the shell to turn back into solution.

What additive are you adding to the tank?
Are you using Kalkwasser with your topoff?
What is the CA reading of a freshly made batch of salt water? (You might have a bad batch?)

0 additives and i was using oceanic but now im using IO that i mix myself, finally got a ro/di system, i know oceanic is high in calcium and i have not tested my freshly made water, just salinity with a refractor meter, thanks got the input on the sacallop.
