We get them here in Thailand from time to time. In fact I was looking at some on Saturday. I don't know much about them though other than the LFS guy said they require very careful acclimation. Indonesia doesn't have a great track record for deep water collection so I would buy with care if you come across some.

The fish that were listed on DD were actually two differant species. The spotted one's are female chiclops and the ones with the magenta towards the caudal are hutomoi. Some hutomoi females show faint spots. Both species can be found aound Indonesia but chichlops extends into the Philippines.

The finer differance's can be seen in the soft rays on the dorsal and the caudal shape.

Did you buy them?

We want pictures!!:)

peter- somebody did have a few in that thread. thank you. i pm'ed them.

carl- i did order them but they wont be here until tues. ill try and get pictures up when they come in. thanks for the info. LA called them hutomoi's so i'm not possitive on the id. just going off of what they labeled it as.

thanks guys

p.s. happy thanksgiving

Wrong labeling is pretty common on the more obscure species. Both species are not very common in the trade atleast in the US.

well i got the anthias today. acclimating now. will probably keep them in the sump until feeding and go from there. all look healthy and active. it looks as though i have 3 hutumoi's and 3 chichlops (though i cant find many good pictures of the chichlops). pics i hope to follow.

Good luck. Some pics would be good when they are in the display.

I know someone here is keeping them and has had them for some time now. Maybe Susanti? Sorry if I spelled your name wrong!

yep i contacted SuAsati. he has a few and said they are fairly hardy and eat well. there was mention of aggresiveness towards the females from the male so i will keep an eye out for it. currently all are very passive and shy in my sump. ive added a couple pieces of pvc for the acclimation period. wish me luck!!!

oh by the way i also purchased a male ventralis from my lfs. they all are deep water species so i hope to make it work by adding all to the display at the same time. we'll see? (i'm well aware of the issues with these but the price and time of year made it worth the try. i may order a couple females to add as well.)

well first good signs. most are eating mysis. this evening ill try some cyclopeez see if that goes b/c thats the main ingredient in my dry mix. i feed twice a day with an auto feeder filled with dry cyclopeez, formula 2, and spectrum thera+. everybody seems to like it.
