Wow...what did you pay for the firefish? How do you sleep at night with out a top on that tank?;)

Wow, that's real nice.

That's a freshwater tank next to it I assume, what kinda plants are those in there? I really like both of them.

Looks good! There's a lot going on in that tank... I think you need a bigger one!

just one question, are those discs what the frags come on, like to glue to rocks eventually growing onto the rock below it?

your fish WILL jump. its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. it sucks losing a $100 fish, so for your sake get a cover :)

For aesthetics sake, the ghetto screen top was taken off before the photo session. I made it by dremeling off the rim of the original stock hood and attaching plastic screening. It's got a couple small gaps around the arm of the light, but has worked well so far. Eventually I'll have to get creative and make one that looks a lot better.

Nicholas, the freshwater tank next to it is a 10g "Amano" style tank and the carpeting plant is a relative of Java Moss called Taiwan Moss. This tank has a ways to go before it's matured, and once it has I will probably add a small school of Cardinal Tetras.

Toygrr, those are just plain old ceramic frag plugs. The Pukani rock I use has many half inch holes in it naturally, so a good blob of superglue gel around the post of the plug and they stay in place very well.

My Purple Bodied Coral Banded Shrimp is a very secretive little guy, and will only show himself at night if I turn the pumps off. Here's some flash pics of him at night:

Not much to show off yet since this tank is still very young, but here you go:

It's a standard 10g glass tank with a 40w Dual Daylight PC fixture (Current Satellite I think). I'm using Eco-Complete for the substrate, and Taiwan Moss as the main carpeting. I currently only have 2 Glow Light Tetras just to keep the tank cycling, but in the future plan on having a small school of Cardinal Tetras. I'm currently battling slime algae, but it's on its way out thanks to a little help from dosing Simazine.

i like both tanks. Just one queston? Are you running Co2 on your freshwater? Anything over 2w per gallon and you should. That might be why your getting some alage. Anyways keep up the good work.

Looks great, but question, how come you don't have any coraline on your rocks? too much lighting? I see there is some in the tank, but mine had more at 6mo than yours has now? just wonderin...

Again, great looking tank, the corals all look awesome!

And that flow is outrageous!!!!

Really?

Maybe I should do something about the 60watts of PC over my 5.5g cause it doesn't have any algae.

Hi,

Where did you get that MH Pendant ???

I have been looking for a light like that for a frag tank that I want to build.

Jon in SW Ohio
11/27/2007, 07:31 PM
The pendant is actually a DIY job. I had a used 150w JBJ Viper, and in all honesty hated the thing because of the limited reflected area. I got a $7 halogen security fixture from Wal Mart, pulled out the socket and swapped out the socket and wiring onto the Viper's arm and it hooks into the Viper's ballast. Kinda hard to explain, but it only took 10 minutes to do.

$35?! did you get it used? i think i'm going to try one. if you got it new for that cheap, please let me know where! that's $10 cheaper than marine depot.

LFS had them for that much. I wasn't even shopping for a powerhead at the time, but couldn't turn it down when I saw the price tag. If you do a Google Product search, you should be able to find a good price.

Got some new corals, so I guess it's update time :)
I just had my birthday, so I decided to knock some corals off my most wanted list. There's still a few I've wanted for over a year, so maybe I'll find an Oregon Tort and a Purple Monster for Christmas.

I'm still waiting for the coralline to take over, but it probably is a bit too bright on the rocks. The funny thing is my orange snails are now purple because their shells are covered in coralline.
