Lately it seems that the water in my 55g FOWLR tank is evaporating extremely quick . I would swear I have a leak but can not find a trace of it.
Seems to go down an inch or more a week it has a glass canopy but it has some openings in the back .
How fast does your water evaporate?
Is it from the dryer weather?

I think tanks do get more evap in winter due to less humidity. Have you added anything like a more powerful MH bulb or a fan blowing on your water?

my system loses 2-4 gallons a day at about 2.5x volume of yours. in the winter, my steam heat dries out the air a lot and it evaporates a lot more. it's particularly obvious this time of year, when there are some days the heat is running a lot and some days it isn't running at all.

I just got a couple new bulbs but they are just NO florescents so I doubt that is it. Maybe you are right about the humidity.

2 gallons per day from my 90 gallon.
Used to be a reliable gallon a day from my 54g bow with 30g sump. Maybe more than that now, since the move: topoff is now automated and I'm not totally sure, but it eats up about a 15 g reservoir fairly often.

4+ gal every other day, or every third day. Some times my skimmer kicks into a wet mode, and I loose a little more.

My 155 (200 gallons total) eats about 2 gallons a day not bad considering I'm running 1000 watts of halide light and 15 pumps, the good thing is my tank is staying between 80-82 this year. fans blowing across the tank or sump really slurps the freshy.

about 1.5 gallons/day on a 60long with 20 gal sump and beefy flow.
about 1/2 gallon a day on my 50 gal rocktank with mellower flow (ex fuge now offline, packed solid with LR I don't have an immediate use for, so I'm running a rock tank :D)
so I guess for 120 gallons total about 2 gallons/day, and it goes up mid-winter and down mid-summer

Wow, all those numbers are amazing but I can see why mostly everyone has some pretty extreme lighting compared to mine.
Anyone with NO lighting?
Do you think covering the top more efficiantly would help?

I've a thirty gallon tank... About one gallon or so a day... it varies... But one gallon is the average... It can drop more than an inch in one day if the top off isn't working.
