Today I turned off my pumps to feed my tank. When I put the cyclopese in my tank I saw alot of bubbles coming out of the rocks and sand. What could this be? Has anyone else ever seen this happen?

how deep is your sand? and did it smell funny?

could be bad gases building up in your sand bed...

do you have any critters living in your sand? Sanils crabs or stars that are stirring your sand bed?

could just be trapped bubbles under your rocks and sand from turning the pumps on and off.

+1 air trapped under the rocks.

Sand be is ~1.5 - 2 inches. Yes I have some nassarian snails, and a sand sifter. Also it was little bubbles coming from all over not just one spot. How would turning the pumps on and off cause a sudden release of bubbles?

Air is introduced from the return pump splashing into the tank...

it could also be nitrogen gas...created by the completion of the nitrogen cycle...which also can get trapped in the rock..and the surge of water from turning the pumps on is enough to move the bubbles out from under the rocks..
