Instead of testing salinity levels with a refractometer or hydrometer, I tasted it with my tounge to see how salty it was...

I remember setting up my first tank and picking through the live rock, looking for the pieces with the anamones (aptasia) on them thinking i was getting free corals with the rocks lol.

I didn't know that when salt water evaporates it's just the water that evaporates, not the salt along with it. Who knew that there was such a thing called specific gravity!

The first time I heard "live rock" I actually though it was really alive.

I guess it all depends on how you define "living".

Oh man, where to begin.

Lessons learned as a newbie.

1. Petco is not the authority on salt water fish & corals.
2. Seaclone skimmers are not worth their weight in plastic.
3. Cheap equipment is not worth it, you get what you pay for.
4. Just because you have kept a damsel alive for 2 weeks, does not mean your tank is ready for advanced corals.
5. Jebo is......well........you know.

And now some funny ones

6. When skimmate is spilled into a load of white laundry, you are in trouble......especially when it is your fiancee's "unmentionables"
7. Dogs like the smell of spilled skimmate.
8. Dogs like to taste and then eat perviously said skimmate.
9. Dogs who eat said skimmate get sick.
10. Said sick dog will vomit twice it's body weight on any and every available carpeted surface.
11. When above dog decides to vomit, by the time you hear the "urp", it's too late.
12. Regurgitated skimmate smells even worse than regular skimmate.
13. When your fiancee comes home to find that her perviously clean white unmentionables covered in skimmate, and the house now has wall-to-wall vomit-covered carpeting, and the fish tank is still not clean........you finally realize how painful this hobby can be!
