Is there a safe alternative for silicone other then the standard stuff you can buy at the LFS that says aquarium on it?

i need the tube one that goes into a calk gun. LFS is out.

Somthing from Home Depot? Like GE II but which one?

GE I window and door. make sure it isnt the one with the mold killer in it. i think the GE II has the mold killer. it wil say not for aquarium use on the package but i have used it for years with no problem. i believe they just say not for aquarium use so they can't get sewed if the tank brakes or anything like that.

i usually wait 48 hours some times longer if i am not in a hurry, but you are so i would wait just 48 hours before you put water in it.

there will be variances on how fast it cures. silcone cures faster when it is heated with a humide heat. obviously is cures slower when it is cold and dry. just so you know that it will very due to the atmosphere it is cruing in.

Lowes sells DAP Aquarium Silicone. Anything that is 100% pure silicone is perfectly safe. Also, there is supposed to be a Liquid Nails version, but I've never seen or read the package. So if you find and opt for the later option make sure it doesn't have additives.

Read the label very closely. I picked up a GE Silicone I that had mold inhibitor. Realized it shortly after I put baffles in my sump. Luckily I could remove it all because it was still wet. Not all GE Silicone I's are safe.

GE I 100% Silicone Door and Window sealant is the one you want. If it has a strong vinegar smell when it is wet, that's the correct one. If it smells kind of like latex paint, you got the wrong one.

Sorry to bring this to the top everyone but I remembered that there are "non reef" ones at our local hardware stores but couldn't remember which ones.

I'm going to Lowes tonight to get the GE I window and door w/ out mildew inhibitors or I'm going to look fur the DAP Aquarium Silicone that InsaneClownFish said he found at Lowes. Hope I can find it too :D I never would have thought that Lowes would carry something like this. I'm off Wish me luck. I'm sure I'll be home w/ one of the two mentioned above

My local ACE hardware store has GE aquarium Silicone for $.20 more than the GE I. Dont know if they are near you but cant get mixed up on that one. Only available in the plastic tubes not the big caulk gun ones.
