I'm in the process of a 125 build and want to design my water change system to be as simple as I can. My sump is a 55 long aquarium divided into a skimmer/return/fuge. The return section holds about 9 gallons. I will have 2 40 gallon containers one for RO/DI and one for SW. At first I thought I could just shut the return pump off let the return section fill up and then drain and fill with fresh SW. As I see it this will only fascilitate about a 9 gallon water change. Option 2 is to fill a 3rd container to a known amount directly from the tank and then replenish the same amount directly to the tank. What do you think or is there a better way. Thanks and sorry about the long post

Well, you will need to do more than 9 gallons.

I would drain straight from the tank and add the new water to sump.
