Please comment on this setup.

Refugium:

Water comes directly from the display tank on top via a durso standpipe. Tank is elevated 4" from base. This tank is drilled with two holes on the top right. Outside bulkhead is around 3/4.

Sump:

Water comes from the refugium via gravity. I am using a RIO 10HF for my return. I also have my protein skimmer using a sedra pump in the sump as well.

With this setup, I eliminated using another pump to drive water to the fuge if i have water from the display go to the sump first. This equates to less heat and less electricity.

Is there any risk of overflow with this setup? I already tested it and turned off power and seemed to work. Doesn't mean that it will not fail, that's why I need your opinion.

i am doing something similiar now and it's doing well...u gotta test the overflow thing yourself...it will have to do with how much water from the fuge will flow into the sump once the power is cut and can the sump handle it

Hi
Thats what I have, refugium is above sump, water from durso is divided to both, fudge is drilled half way to hold aprox. 5gal
with power out it holds all the water and water from the tank fills the sump

the tank is 36 corner so its tight underneath

So far it hasn't overflowed when I tested. The sump when operational is only filled halfway. So I would think half a tank is my buffer.

I have a very similar setup with a sump, then fuge setup

I would set it up for sump first, then fuge. You dont want to be dumping raw dirty water directly to the fuge.

i did somthing similar too but my tanks are at the same level i just used a siphon tube to connect them.

That is impressive use of space. ;)

I agree, sump first, fuge second. You want to protien skim raw tank water.

Hard to see the other 10g, and the skimmer is off to the left

I have 2 overflows, one goes into each tank, then the fuge/frag tank is gravity fed into the sump. Drilling the 10 is hard because of the glass being so thin.
