Any water filter will be alot better then none. Amount depends on flow rate really. Just get a good midrange and change out filters whene needed and water source will never be an issue.
Even if you have rocky mountain cold chilled water source its a great backup / extra insurance low cost item.

For a unit that will work well and live up to its claims expect to spend right at $150-$160 up to about $230. Any less and you give up important things like water quality, standard sized replacement filters (non standard filters are almost always more expensive and often times do not last as long or work as well), component lifespan, important things like a TDS meter or pressure gauge or all of the above.
UNits to consider should include:
www.buckeyefieldsupply.com - 75 GPD Premium Series
www.thefilterguys.biz - 75 GPD Ocean Wave+ or better yet Ocean Reef+1
www.purelyh2o.com - 75 GPD Optima Vision, Automated or Professional
www.melevsreef.com - Reefkeeper Series

Whatever you end up with, get a good TDS meter, preferrably a handheld and a pressure gauge. Other good things to have are a RO bypass so you can use RO only water for other uses, an autoshutoff valve if you intend to automate a topoff or storage vessel and a full size vertical 10" canister and refillable 20oz DI cartridge for best DI treatment and lowest cost of ownership.
