i was wondering if using a chiller vs. fans would reduce water evaporation?

Personally, I wouldnt. I dont want to have to pay for the chiller, nor pay to run it. I just deal with the 3-4 gallon a day top off.

the fans only runs like 12 to 24 watts max a chiller is running more than those fans will every use in electricity. If you are at 79 with fans don't bother with a chiller. The only reason I would buy one if I were you is if the power goes out during the hot season and you have a generator. The chiller could at least keep the temp down and not fry your inhabitants.

Fan on a stand= my chiller. LOL. Less expensive to run, less noise, and less heat in the room.

79 degrees isnt bad at all. I'd save the money for buying more coral...

We keep our house relatively hot, 80 degrees, so we run chillers on our tanks, I have 6 tanks most running MH and my electric bill is decently high, also the chillers aren't loud, quieter than the computer fans, and definately quieter than any standard size fans people would use. But yeah at 79 degrees don't bother with a chiller, just maybe get a large topoff tank and an auto topoff
