I started out with 2 clownfish in my 10 gallon QT tank. One of them died about 2 days ago. The one that remains seems very much alive. Could it be that he killed my other clownfish? I did notice some dominant behavior but only the last couple of days before the other one died.

I don't know why he died otherwise. There have been small amounts of both nitrites and ammonia over the past three weeks but I've been doing almost daily water changes. I do admit I haven't replaced water daily due to evaporation but it should not matter due to the daily changes right?

Also he is only eating about 2 pellets per day (formula one). Is this normal? He is a pretty small size. When I put the pellets in there he eats them enthusiastically.

I'm really nervous that he will die also even though he looks very vibrant. I have alot of $$$ invested in this and greatly want to succeed.

If you dont replace the evaporation with fresh water your salinity level will rise VERY quickly. Test this level and make sure you are around 1.023.

If you have 3 weeks of evaporation on a 10g tank and the tank is in a cold room (65 degrees or less) you could have a salinity of around 1.040 i would guess. Go check this quickly. If it is high, make sure you lower it SLOWLY no more than .002 per hour (IE 1.040 to 1.038 in an hour).

I did pwc's daily and filled to the top so I don't think evaporation should be a problem. My SG has been consistently 1.022

Is that what it is RIGHT NOW?

Try soaking the pellets in something like GarlicXtreme. It will help to boost the clown's immune system, just in case your other clown caught something. I'm not totally sure what happened to the other clown, though, sorry.

I'll try the garlic with the pellets. I didn't know you could do that with the pellets. I've been using it with the mysis shrimp and he seems to love it.

Why can't you do it with pellets? I do... :)
