hey guys i bought a wet and dry system from a buddy and installed it on my tank, the problem i'm having with it, is that the return pump keeps sucking air in and blowing it all over the DT, i went to look down on the wet and dry and it seems like it can't keep a level of water high enough for the pump, so the pump ends up pulling air in also. is there anyway to fix this? or do i have to replace the pump with a smaller unit? maybe this pump is too strong for this small wet dry?

a lot of times you can adjust the pump. Is there a lever you can move to control output??

What is your overflow rated for and what is your pump rated for?GPH that is.Do you have a external overflow?Did you put enough water in the sump?

i really don't know how much the overflow is rated for, but the pump is 700gph and yeah i did put enough water in sump.

If it is a single external overflow, most are rated for 600gph.Your pump should be fine. You lose at least 100gph at 3 ft head loss. They do sell ball valves, put one on the output side of your pump to regulate the flow. It wont hurt the pump at all. Sounds kind of fishy though, the overflow should be able to handle that pump.

Check to make sure there isnt a snail or something stuck in the drain hose or pipe. Good luck..Is it a external overflow with a u tube siphon?Make sure you are getting full syphon if so.

tomorrow is my day off so i'll be adjusting everything i'll let you know how it goes

Mine U tube is rated for 600 GPH, and my return pump is rated for 650, and I still have to throttle it back, even after the head loss. I don't think the rating on the U tubes are completely accurate.

Just install a ball valve after the pump and throttle it back a bit. Make sure the valve is AFTER the pump, if it is before it will cause cavitation.
