I am about to start a new 50 long reef. was thinking of going with a asm instead of remora. which do you guys think would perform better for the money.. remora urchin, mini G, or g-1 sedra. Any suggestions would be great) I was not to impressed by my remora HOT.

I would go with asm over the aqua c. Another option is the octopus skimmers line.

Any ASM skimmer will demolish a remora but they are not HOT.

I run an ASM on my tank and I love it. The reef octopus skimmers are getting rave reviews and they are cheaper than ASM sometimes.

thanks for the replys, My new tank will have a sump/fuge. After looking around a bit it's between the octo 180, or asm g1x... you do not have to tune anything on these right?

as long as the sump water level is constant you shouldn't have to adjust them much.

No one has mentioned the Euro-Reef skimmer here. This is hands down better than the skimmers that are mentioned. Just plug it in and let it go.

I know the Euro-Reef is good. I would pick one of these up if it was me. I might try and pick one up on the used equipment forum, Craigslist, or ebay. There are some descent prices to be had. As far as Octopus i hear they are good but do not have 1st hand experience. If i went with Octopus, i would most likely get the best one that they mfg.

I run a DAS skimmer, which is a lot better value than the euro-reef.

What is your budget?

I do agree with this statement. For the Money the CSS skimmers are great. When I first started out thats what I had on my 55. But for the money that I was going to spend getting a bigger one new, I got a used skimmer off RC for the same price. I got to say I never new there could be that much crap in a tank. I mean from dry to wet skimming. This thing is a beast. No Coral Life skimmer can compare to this performance. I cant say much about the octos as I have never owned one. Just read the past reviews on this forum and see which one fits you the best. If your asking for opinions I have to say hands down, Euro-Reef......
