My powerheads have become encrusted in Coralline and other matter and would like to clean them. WHat would be the best solution to use. Is there any acid to get the stuff to disolve off.
Thanks, Scott Yilk

I let mine soak for awhile in a white vinegar and water solution. I usually let them sit overnight and coralline generally comes right off with a brush used on them.

I also turn mine on in the bucket of vinegar and water to run it through the pump.

Use a vinegar solution, let them soak, and then scrub with a clean rag or soft scrubbie pad

I totally disagree with all the above.

I use water and vinegar.

Good twist.

Same here. 2/3 to 1/2 water to 1/3 to 1/2vinegar. I let the pumps run over night if possible, but at least for a few hours. And be sure to rinse well before putting back in your tank/sump.

Straight white vinegar, no dilution. Its only $1.50 a gallon and works wonders. By using it straight, I strain the big stuff out and reuse it over and over until the pH is no longer low enough to do any good.
