View Full Version : Snail/Slug/I dunno/Hmm.. Need I.D.

Need an idea on these guys. Girlfriend came across them aquascapeing her pico tank. Had the tank for a month or so, but we never seen these two so they might be nocturnal. Small flat shells, very think and sleek. They are also the fastest snails i ever seen, I MEAN FAST!!!
Got some good pics and a side shot of the shell to make an easy ID. Thanks for the help...

Stomatella varia.

Great little grazers, mostly nocturnal. Has the ability to detach the rearward part of it's foot like a lizard, which will then wriggle around and distract it's predator while it uses it's speed to escape.

Agreed! Good guys to have and they frequently spawn in the tank.

Definately stomatella. If you've found a couple in your tank, there are surely more. They do a pretty good job at the algae.
