The new house has a large mulberry tree in the back yard. I'm new to the whole tree thing, so I thought I'd ask. Other kinds of trees around here have started to change colors on the leaves, but this one is still bright green. Will they change to fall colors or will they just wilt and fall off?

Mine turn yellow and then drop. They're dropping now.

yes, yellow is correct... Here in Missouri, they are considered Gods second worst weed, first being the blessed Cottonwood tree.

My professional suggestion is to make one final pruning at the base and plant something nice :)

Lol, here in AZ, green is green. The tree does provide a lot of shade. Thanks for the replies!

Kill it. Kill it now. Mulberry trees are evil and must die.
Mine change colors...usually look blackened by the time i get done with them.

Just curious, why are they bad?

can you really get rid of them? around here they are as invasive as cedars!

messy fruit, nasty growth habits, invasive, weak wood, need any more reasons?

We had a white mulberry; no fruit (some don't, apparently) back in Indianapolis. The leaves just went brown from yellow. Really cool old tree; it was about 50" at the base the year we left. It always looked on the verge of cracking, needed major pruning. The wood was really dense, made good firewood and was good for smoking on the grill, but took forever to cure. Lots of twigs and smaller branches every year. Supposedly one of the sacred trees of India, and is the leaf favored by the silkworm.

That's all I know about mulberry trees. :D

Ah, I see. We'll be cutting down two of them from the side of the house so I can put in a vehicle gate, but we're keeping the one in the back yard. :)
