i got bored last week and set up my old ten gallon i had sitting under my bed, haha. i have put arag-alive florida crushed coral as the substrate and about 8.5 lbs of live rock in, i will put more in. any advice for a brand new nano tank owner? i have a bio wheel filter, but i need to upgrade the lighting. any ideas? also i have no idea what would be good/cool livestock for it, suggestions?

I would probably ditch the bio-wheel thing....

I would swap out the crushed coral for some live sand and get rid of the bio-wheel and maybe run a small fuge

I agree.
The lights you pick will depend on the type of coral you plan on keeping.
Also, I highly suggest some sort of small goby or blenny, and maybe a clown for that special "show fish."
Good luck and have a blast!

before you ditch the bio wheel, what kind of tank are forming? FOWLR or REEF. Are you doing soft coral, hard coral or a combination of both?? DO you plan on adding a protein skimmer?
Inquiring minds want to know.;)
