Hey all, I am looking for a pump that is as quiet as possible. I have found the QuietOne pumps and am looking at the 2200 model. Have anyone used these pumps, not just this specific model, but any of the QuietOne pumps. Are they truly quiet? I have a Mag Drive and that is loud, so anything that is quieter would work.

Thanks

They are decently quiet. Some people report start up issues, but I haven't observed this. I ran a 3000 for 2 years with no cleaning, and it started back up every time.

Every one i've used was quiet and small in size as well as low in watts. But thats not everyone's experience.

I have 2 Q1 4000s. No problems with either and both pretty quiet.

The older ones (more than 2 years) seem to have better reliability than the newer ones. They changed something and it was for the worse. I have a few of the older ones still kicking around and never had restart issues but have had restart issues with the newer 3000 and 4000 pumps.

I have a QO 3000 and it never restarts. I've finally replaced it with an Eheim. No more restart issues for me. I initially placed way too much emphasis on getting away with the lowest wattage pump possible and now I feel like a few extra watts for a more reliable pump is well worth it. I don't even cringe at the idea of turning of my pump now for maintenance or feeding purposes. I would pass on the QO pump myself.

get an ocean runner 3500, it is super quiet and uses less watts than an Eheim

The reason I was looking at the Quiet One 2200 pump was because I am only going to use it to pump 3 feet away into a 10 gallon tank where my new skimmer will be located. Therefore, I am not going to need so much of a gph rate like the Ocean Runner 3500, I just need a pump that is enough to circulate water from my sump to a 10g tank which will have a 1" bulkhead. I am not looking to spend over $50 on a pump with shipping included. Would this Quiet One pump be my only choice?

all the 2200 ive used allways worked great.
I thought it was the old ones that had the start problems.
i using some newer 3000s
and they seem to start good. The 6000s were a little finicky on starting to me.

I replace the impeller in the 6000 and it became very good starting. i start and stop the 6000 all the time

ReefRockerLive -

my 2 cents - I wouldn't depend on these pumps to be reliable pass the first year if new. I have and had use multiple models (3000, 4000, 5000, 6000). I just had to replace the 4000 model the other day, luckily I had another pump (just happened to be another 4000).

Restart is an issue. I threw the non-working one in the trash along with a few other non-working models I've accumulated in the past. I understand price is a factor, just make sure you have a working backup pump just in case. Good luck if you decide to go with them. I personally would not buy another pump from them other than for backup purpose; and then only I would only buy new.

I've had a 6000 running for over a year and a half. No restart problems, and I purposely turn it off/on a couple times a day. It IS pretty quiet.

I also have a 9000 - but it's in the box. They even sent me a new housing that was allegedly quieter, but it's not. The 9000 is WAY too loud.

Thanks to everyone for their input on these pumps. I have one on it's way, the 2200 model. Hopefully I won't run into any problems, if I do I can always use a back-up I have lying around. Unfortunately the back-up is super loud. :( I hope I will never have to use it.

yes they are quiet but they cut down alot with head pressure. There older modules were amazing they they sold there company and they changed the pump and it was never the same. When they first came I sware I would now be able to tell it was on unless they water was moving

My 2200 would never restart so I tossed it and got an Eheim.

I have restart issues with 3000 and 4000 models which are at the oldest approx. 2 years. Is there a Quiet One rep. registered with ReefCentral. Maybe there is a fix that we do not know about.......

I have the 1200 in my BC29 and it runs great. I used to have a Rio and it died after 3months of use. The QuietOne's are easy to clean.

I had restart problems with my QO3000 as well so I upgraded to an Eheim 1262 and never looked back. It's been working like a champ for me.

I currently have a QuietOne 3000,4000,5000,6000. The 6000 is the only pump that I have running on my closed loop so it is being used externally. The rest of the pumps are sumps.

I have never had a problem with any of them, they all run quiet and never fail to restart. The only thing I have slight problem with is the 6000. Once I go to flip it back on, it does make a clicking noise for a few seconds, but Im sure thats due to it being used for my closed loop and it isnt getting all thewater it needs. Otherwise I will continue to purchase them.

Does anyone remember the old external quiet ones, that were very powerful and near silent?

It wasn't that long ago, maybe 5 years or so... Those were awesome pumps! The 4000HH was rumored to be the spec-replacement for it.

Here is another why I will stay with quiet One Pumps.

Here is an Email I sent them with a problem I had with my Quiet One 5000 that is 5 years old and out of warranty.

I have used your QuietOne pumps for my aquariums for years without a single problem, both being in and out of water. I currently have a QuietOne 4000(internal use) 6000(external Use) and 5000(internal use) in use for over 4 years without incident. 3days ago My Other QuietOne 5000 pump (submersed) quit working. I pulled it out and noticed the case cracked both on the top of the pump and the bottom. I dont remember what the warranty consists of, that is the reasoning for this Email. What would cause the case to crack like this pumps did?

Thanks,Mike

Here is there response not even one hour later.

Not sure what would cause this crack without evaluating the pump. However, I can tell you it's very unusual. I would suggest we replace it at no charge. Please reply to this email with your address and we'll send you a new pump. Thank you for choosing Pentair Aquatics.

I thought they were until I hd one fry my tank. It was a 4000 in a closed loop and worked fine for about 18 months until I noticed my chiller running non stop one day. I started unplugging things until I pinpointed the pump. Once I removed it the tank went down 5 degrees in a matter of 24 hours. It was replaced with a OceanRunner 3500 which is a much better pump.
