water flow through the sump

ive heard different things about how much flow i should have going through my sump and was wanting to get some other opinions. i have about 1000gph going through there now and want more water flow in my tank. was wondering whitch would be better bigger pump(more through sump) or power heads

3-5 time the tank volume through the sump. the rest of the flow handled by power heads or closed loop.

I agree with above and think power heads are the most simplist and most efficient way to go inside the tank. I would only go with a closed loop if I had a specially drilled tank that had outlets in places powerheads can not really go, otherwise I prefer propeller based powerheads.
