I have heard in the past that having a sump helps with water changes. Is something done to the sump plumbing to assist in changing the water? I am setting up my sump soon and would like to add anything that would assist with the water changes.

Thats up to you. Is all of your equiptment in the bottom of a stand or in a fish room? Try looking at the nano and large tank forums to see if you can get some ideas from other people's setups. You could tee off the return line, put a valve on it so all you have to do is turn on the valve, drain the water and then replace it. If you did something like this keep in mind head pressure when figuring your return pump.

If you have a return line that is flexible plastic and it hangs over the back of the tank to be returned, you can just lift it and place it in a bucket to be dumped, then turn on the pump and pump out your water.

If your system is hard plumbed then you probably will have to tee off a seperate line to act as a flushing pipe.
