View Full Version : 400 watt aquaconnect or ushio

has anyone used both? or using one at this time. i see on ushios website that the correct ballast for the10 and 14 k bulbs is the m135 pulse start, and thats what i have, but will the a/c run on them as well?

They definitely should. They will be a bit bluer than the Ushios, so if that's what you're looking for, you'll be happy.

I am using the Ushio 14K 400watter and it's white, not even close to blue.

I am using the the Ushio 14k with an Icecap ballast. It is so different than the 250w 12k Reeflux.

im just not on te reeflux wagon. i tried them in the past, and dont know if the power is there. i sure dont want to go to a 20 k bulb because all ive read says those dont last very long before they need changed. i dont want the 6500 iwasaki, so im trying to find a middle. 10 to 14 k. im almost afraid to go to even a 14 due to my clams, but i bet my sps would still grow, all be it slower, but color would look good.

The Ushio 14k (400w) grows sps and clams quite well, but then so did the Reeflux 12k (250w).

My only reasoning to do such a switch was just so I could grow sps at the bottom of the tank and get them to color up vs. putting them up higher.

The Reeflux 12k is closer to a 20k after I installed the Ushio 14k which is absolutely different than a Phoenix 14k or even a Hammy 14k.

The 400W Ushio 14K is an excellent bulb with a high PAR rating, it can keep up or exceed many 10K's in PAR. You will get good results from this bulb.

i second that look at the par rating of the bulbs ushio is higher

Check out Sanjays site, the 14K Ushio is the same as the 14K BLV "Nepturion", has a PPFD of 214 on an M135 ballast.

If it is really the same bulb, and if it has an aesthetically appealing color spectrum, then it looks like a good one. It seems crucial to get the PFO HQI ballast, though, for that PPFD number.
