anything other than acrylic, glass, pvc, or a plastic breeder box

I suppose there wouldnt be any issues using a ceramic pot for it :p but have fun drilling it. It would also be a pain in the arse to mount due to the weight.

PVC pipe and acrylic is really the best way to go.

Some other kinds of plastics can leach toxins into your tank. ABS is one that may be ok though. Besides that, you would have to give some examples if you want an answer; you question is kind of open ended, what are you thinking of?

well i leaning towards those food storage boxes but im not sure if those have toxins. I bought this breeder box but it was too small to cover my drilled hole so I need something bigger. PVC is an option but that would mean id have to cover the entire area from top to bottom of the tank. Acryclic is hard to bend because i dont have a heat gun and glass seems hard to cut(havent tried it with my jigsaw though:D_

Also with anything that isnt plastic, i wont be able to use krylon fusion so that it wont leech into the water. Is acrylic plastic, can krylon safely on that? If i can then i might as well put some elbow grease into building an acrylic overflow box

If they are food grade plastics, they are ok to use. A blow dryer should produce enough heat to mold acrylic, you should only need to use 1/8", or if it is for your 29g 1/16" may be ok.

If your looking to cut glass, a diamond cutting wheel and a drill works well. I build my overflow out of pvc pipe and it works a treat, the only problem is it acts like a plug hole and the water spirals down it! I still really wish I'd got my tank drilled though!

If you want something really simple you could use a water bottle. i just tried it out. seems to work fine.
