personally I think I would look at the for sale forum here and try and maybe pick up a used H&S 110 or 150 model. You may be able to find a used 110 for around that much... maybe a little more w/ shipping. H&S is a great skimmer w/ excellent support through Fins Reef. I think you would be much happier w/ doing something like this rather than buying something of questionable quality and haveing to upgrade later.

I ran a A110 on a 58g. for about a yr and it did a great job.

Just be aware of the seller and get pics first. I've never had a problem w/ someone who has bought my used stuff and I think most are great people here but it does'nt hurt to be safe.

I've had good luck with my CSS220 some people don't like it but I think it's the best bang for the $ @ 150-170 it pulls out some thick nasty gunk!! stinky too

I run it on a 120 total gal. :mixed:

A DAS EX-1 is $259 from petorama. Thats what I would do... sure, slightly over $200, but well worth it. It will skim circles around a Coralife.

The das ex-1 cost $285.99. There was an price increase for the AB 2001 pumps of $40.

Still is what i would get....

what pump did it used to have on it?

It always used the ab2001....

so they were just like "uh lets charge 40 more bucks for it"?

I'm not sure. I think it has something to do with how bad the dollar is doing against the euro, Since this pumps are import for Germany. The price increase came from the maker of the pump Aquabee.

DAS still only charge $140 for the pump while H&S charges $160 and deltec $250 for their "custom" ab2001.

Gosh, makes me wish some US company would get off their butt and design a line of pumps to compete with the eheims and Aquabees, Red Dragons/Askolls, and Sicces... you know?

Help me understand, Not trying to start anything, but what is the difference that make that skimmer run circles around a coralife?
Mine fills about 1/2-3/4 cup/week of some nasty smelly gunk, and all my parameters are in check. I also have a nice fuge that I harvest cheato every couple weeks and it's full of mud and LR with 4 chambers.

Bare in mind I'm still a newb but I have almost exhausted my resources of knowledge. That's why I'm on here trying to soak it all up like a sponge.

Thanks :bum:

Yes but i dont think you could do that. These skimmer are built around the pumps.

as most needle wheel skimmers are. i was just shocked that the skimmers cost so little.

well the DAS mixes more bubbles with more water collecting more skimmate
