I decided to run my RO/DI directly to my tank instead of a holding tank because of space under my cabinet. Anyways I am looking for a Solenoid Valve that I can plug into my JBJ ATO (http://www.jbjnanocube.com/) .

Has anyone used this Solenoid Valve (http://autotopoff.com/products/solenoid/index.htm) ? It looks like just what I need to control my RO/DI line into my sump. Will this work with the JBJ ATO? I know the JBJ will support up to 2 amp but I have no idea the watt or voltage limit. Anyone with electrical knowledge? I don't want to electricute myself :( Where is that electrician with the beer belt, hehe

Also on their site they have a Low Voltage Upgrade (http://autotopoff.com/custom.html) Will I need one of these for each solenoid? I want to run 2 solenoids because we all know how reliable electrical components are, hehe.

A number of people have trashed tanks with this sort of direct setup. I wouldn't trust the solenoid valve, personally. At the very least, I'd have two solenoids and two controllers on the setup.

The DIY forum probably has a lot more expertise with this type of question.

Thank you. I know the risk and thats why I would definitely use 2 solenoids, 2 controllers and a timer. I just dont want to electricute myself, hehe.

Sounds like a noble goal. :) I don't know enough about electricity to help much, though.

Many people use sprinkler valves in drip irrigation.

In RO, the flow rate is even lower than in most drip irrigation. I have some doubt as to whether it works. Someone told me that it is the water pressure that enables the sprinkler valve to work, not the flow rate.

The sprinkler valve uses a solenoid but the valve is not opened or closed by the solenoid, the solenoid opens and closes a small hole for an air operated diaphragm.

In the discus forum, someone told me that he uses the sprinkler valve for freshwater tank water change on the RO line without problem.

In FW, if the valve sticks open, all you lose is water. In reef it means death.

I'll try with a sprinkle valve for my FW tank water change, but if it doesn't work I'll get a true "solenoid valve" here.

Thanks for the link.
