All I can say is I found him on a zoo rock munching away
Anyone have an idea as to it's ID and removal methods if I see any more.

That's a sundial snail. Very bad for Zoa's as you've already found...

You need to get out a flashlight and search several hours after lights out and catch all that you can find. Where there's 1 there's who knows how many. They can mow down some zoos pretty quick.

I'd also say sundial. Freshwater dips usually kill them.

There's another snail that can look simimlar. I'm wondering if it isnt a type of nerite. I have them all over my tank but they aren't on the zoos munching (thats how I know the difference)

but if that guy was.. dips can help. I have a little bit about them in my pest presentation on the orca forums if it helps

Thank you very much folks, that is the same conclusion I came up with after searching for a while. This rock was purchased from a lfs no names to mention, but all the more reason to qt before introducing to the tank.
I will keep my eyes peeled as the rock is rather isolated in one of the 20g frag tanks in my system.
Do they get much larger than this one, his size was approximately 3/8-7/16"?
Reason I ask is the maturity of the snail and ability to lay eggs.

Your doomed! If you want I'll go ahead and take those corals that were in that tank off your hands before they are consumed. rofl :P

I was looking more closely at this picture- is there another tiny pyramid shaped snail on the sundial snail?

No Chrisstie that is the portion that is coming out of the shell, the photo was taken with the snail still alive (not anymore hehe) submerged in water in a petri dish.

Ahh ok just a trick of the eyes then.

Good luck getting rid of those guys.

If you want a sample of the harmless but similar looking snail I can try to catch one and take a picture. They are just out all over my glass at night and not feeding on anything they shouldn't

Yeah that's them. The "good guys" don't have the weird tale and don't move sideways like the thread describes.

I'm not sure about how large the sundials can get.. the good guys are like an itty bitty uncooked grain of couscous and their flesh is white and not tattood. Not sure I can get the camera to train on them they are too tiny lol
