I have a couple of older 55's lying around. I am not sure if the sides are tempered or not. Is there any way of telling? Are you going to use it as a sump?

That is what I need it for, I want to drill one end for a 2" bulkhead to use an external return pump.

My current 55 sump is drilled for a 3/4" bulkhead and I don't want to risk redrilling it and having it crack and then being SOL...

Once I build the new sump, then I will have a workable 55 sump for someone else to have it they want it.

i did not drill my sump. i just made a u-shape tube to run from the return section of my sump going up the top of the sump then to the pump. it works weel for me. just make sure you will add a tee on one angle for you to bleed/prime the pump. just a suggestion.

Hmmm, now that's a thought which appeals to my lazy/cheap side...

If you want one of the tanks let me know. These tanks would be perfect for a sump. I was keeping them around in case I set up another system. I am not looking for much for it or may trade for a frag or 2. Let me know what route you decide to go. I am heading back to Naperville on Saturday and could bring it by.

Well, I probably can't (won't) pass that up. Let me call Rod and see if/when & how much it will cost to drill.

I live right by Rod's so I could bring it there. Do you know if you can tell if the glass is tempered or not?

I know that if it shatters when you drill it, then it's tempered....

I've seen that before. LOL
