Hey everyone. I am about to order an Octopus NW150 for my 135G FOWLR tank. Does anyone see why this skimmer would not be a good buy? I have a budget and can get one for $125 off the Octopus/Marinesolutions site. The tank has been running for about a year without a skimmer and I feel it is time to add one before I add anymore livestock. I cant seem to shake the slight cloud in the water.

It is too small for your tank, get the NW-200. All skimmers are optimistic in what they can skim.

I thought about that when making my decision. I just cant talk the wife into the added $50 price tag. Maybe I should start by posting a thread in the Want to Buy forum to see if anyone bites.

Any other opinions? No disrespect to Cobra, I just want to know if anyone else has the same feeling or something different.

No disrespect taken however there are 150 different skimmers threads on here that will all say the same thing.... manufacturers over-state what the skimmer is capable of. By not spending the extra $50 you are wasting your money. The nice thing about that... it doesn't effect me either way. :)

ive heard that a go0d estimate is that the skimmer should be rated for around double your actual tank volume.

A NW 150 is good up to a 75g, the octo200 is good up to a 150g or less imo. you'll be very disapointed if you get the octo 150. Tell wifey you'll work a couple extra hrs.

You should be able to save a little money and get an adequate skimmer with either an AquaEuroUsa skimmer or one of the DAS EX-1 skimmers.

I run a 110 on my 75 and it does fine (macro export and careful with feeding). If he has went an entire year without a skimmer certainly the 150 would be a big improvement. But I agree with everyone else, buy bigger or you will regret it later. I have already planned to replace my 110 at some point... with the money I spent on the 110 and the new skimmer I could have had an even nicer skimmer.

I cant seem to shake the slight cloud in the water.

I ran a week without a skimmer and I never had a cloud, not sure what that would be and not sure if a skimmer would cure it.
