im starting this because i would like to know how hard core you are. list a few things you have done in the name of reefing.

i drive out of state for corals you can get local.
i have a small holding tank at the shop here for corals i get in on shippments.
i say HI to the tank before my wife (sorry Lissa) when i get home.
i hit almost every east side LFS twice a week looking for nice stuff.
every other word out of my mouth is "fish" or "coral"

I shop the $9.99-$29.99 section of pets inc like I am shopping for kids toys at goodwill

I get 5 hours of sleep a night as I wait up for my new candy to open up it's tents so I can feed it and nurse it back to health

I spent the same about of money on my sunpod trying to reproduce sunlight as I did to tint my windows to keep the sun out

I have a $300 ro for my house, yet my fish swim in distilled purified water from the store.

I spent $20.00 in gas to get a $29.99 Koralia "yesterday, thanks paul" *LOL*!!!

I spent $35.00 for sand when I have a wash full of 1/4 mile away

The 20lbs of rock in my tank cost more than the ton I just purchased for landscaping

SHOOT !! sorry

I have been to every LFS (saltwater) in both Phoenix and Tucson in one day...On more than one occassion.

My family thinks I'm strange because I stare at my tanks.

I spend more on saltwater than I do on my dogs and cats

I lie about having new fish and corals (no they were there!)

I too buy from all over the U.S., last piece from Green Bay Wisc.

I think hanckockrich has us all beat. He spent his short R&R time home from Iraq setting up a reef tank! :D

Here's all I can think of:

* We (crazy hubby and I) drove to the L.A. area and back in one day to cherry pick 150lbs of live rock. Left at 5AM, got home at 6:30PM. We also drove to Sierra Vista to get a chiller & pump.

* My canopy has a gas pedal and a horn

* We mixed concrete in the living room to level the floor/repair a foundation crack for the tank

* The house has two RO/DI units

* Because of setting up the tank, we have purchased a new chop saw, drill press, biscuit joiner, router & cordless dremel w/lots of diamond bits, not to mention all the camera equipment

* We ran an electrical subpanel for only the tank.

* I buy latex gloves and safety goggles in bulk at Sams Club, order super glue and spray foam by the case

* I spend hours every 6-8 months with a food processor and a whole lot of stinky ingredients making gourmet fish food and stuffing it in to little ice cube trays.

* There was a $1500 charge on my credit card from Reeftopia (Ok, that was a group order)

lol, I am not hard core at all

I will be if I can sell my 69 Firebird to finance my new tank.

Yes......I am HARDCORE.

I will absolutely be late or even miss work if my tank needs something. Gave up house cleaning, cooking, the yard and all that stuff.

I have dropped everything I was doing and been out the door in 5 minutes to help another reefer in need.

I have only missed 2 FRAG meetings in the past 3 years. One was a family reunion I had no control over the dates and the other was reef related.

I don't take long vacations away from the tanks.

I have cried over the loss of a crab and have buried a Lawnmower Blenny and Hawaiian Wrasse.

I test, test, and test some more!!!!

I check my tanks first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I can't count how many times in between.

I am an avid RC reader in most Forums.

Skimmate don't stink. ;)

OH........and I have spent some bucks too.

PSsssss....Whats that guys name on the sofa in the other room???

i'm not AS hard core as most of you....however, since i purchased and set up my tank i've spent over $900 on fish. I've gone through about 115 cichlids in 9 months! i put them in...they last about an hour and then...BAM dead. i once went to the store three times in the same day buying more!! cant figure it out, the water parameters are all good?

Try replacing your sand bed with rainbow colored gravel, add bioballs and feed them sheets of Nori. Must be the store you are getting them from.

Well..

~ Corals and fish get fed before me or my man does, then the dogs, then humans.

~ Like kirsten I will call in to work or be late of my tank needs something

~ Spend $500 in test kits, testing is fun!

~ Drive an hour about once a week for water from AT .... man I hope I win that RO unit from Melev!

~ Waited 8 months with a fishless tank, for a pair of clownfish, and paid $200 for them.

~ Will shop at the dollar store for groceries/supplies just to save for the frags I saw last weekend.

~ Feed my hermits a pellet each with tweezers. Yea I know.

AND THE BEST ONE******* I told my man I would end our relationship and move if he didnt let me make our empty spare room into a prop room.... lets just say I have a prop room now :D

I've got a couple:

* Went fish shopping on my honeymoon in Hawaii and FedExed the fish home.

* Bought my pair of sharks on vacation, and then kept them in a cooler in my hotel room for the next three days (the store closed for the holiday weekend) with a powerhead and twice daily water changes.

* Nothing has strained my marriage more than this hobby.

Nothing has strained my marriage more than this hobby.

That is a shame. My wife and I do everything together. I had fish when I met her (she was 12 and I went out with her older cousin, I am 6 years older) and I told her I would always have fish.
She comes on most of the dives with me and she even enjoyed the sharks in Tahiti.
As for the moorish Idol I had him about 5 years, then I lost most of my fish to an accident.

However, I expect to be on that plane with Evolust for the next San Diego trip....

I qualify as hardcore and here is my proof. Me fragging a coral less than 24 hours out of knee surgery. And a picture of a few days later for all the people that like to see something a bit nasty.

WOW ryan that looks worse than my ACL/MCL meniscus surgery!!!!! I feel for ya. Thats definatly hard core, I was in bed for a month, and had to sleep in one of those machines that move your leg up and down. Cant even imaging trying to frag corals or doing WCs, lol. Friggin wakeboarding, but it is FUN! ;)

And now I need neck surgery after trying to figure out what evolust is fragging. So that qualifies me. :) Seriously, hope everything is OK with your recovery. Are you gonna be ready to start for the Cal/USC game?

No, that makes you insane since you have a new baby in the house!! Unless of course, you're feeding at the same time! :-D
