View Full Version : Fed my CSS 220 skimmer tonight

Tonight I plumbed my overflow directly in to my skimmer. It was just draining in to the first chamber of my sump before. This has worked out much better. Foam production in the first hour has been great. I added nothing to the tank to excite the skimmer either.

I will be adding a coupling to slip over the venturi to finish off the connection tomorrow.

Over flow is a CPR 600gph

Look at you go!

So what happens if the skimmer pump is stopped, will the return keep flowing? How do you like that CSS? Hows that bubble trap work? remember i told you i thought mine was backwards and pretty much useless...

Lookin good bud, good to finally see some pics!

I would avoid attaching the piping to the skimmer..it's an accident waiting to happen. jus have the water close enough to the pump intake and it will work great. If you attach it, and your skimmer pump stops it might contiue feeding water into the skimmer and right out the top of the cup onto the floor depending on your flow through the overflow.

Here is a current pic after the coupling was added to finish the connection. I added two 1/8" holes in the pipe just before the coupling because the pump cavatated a bit.

I alos changed the output to just a 4" pipe, two 45's, and a sock.
This pic is with the pump running!! No bubbles escape the sock.

The connection to the pump has a very small gap between the coupling and the venturi. When the pump is off the water from the overflow is relieved through that gap and the 2 holes.

With no scientific way to measure I figure I'm getting 95%+ of the water from the overflow in to the skimmer.

Just for safety sake, cut your skimmer pump off and see what happens. I'm not doubting just curious.

I had the skimmer off for about an hour this morning while the return pump continued to run. No problems. Like I said enough escapes through the 1/8 holes and around the coupling to prevent any disaster.
